RAMADAN KAREEM
By Mouhammed Mouallem
Waiting on the new moon, it'll come soon, and I'm ready,
30 days, one of five Pillars I stand on to stay steady,
So for the times I find myself on shaky ground,
I look to the Almighty to protect me, so they can't break me down,
Ramadan, The Night of Power and the Celebration,
One lunar month, to rise to new elevations,
Strong willed, walking with my tongue white and tummy slight,
Feeding off the strength of my soul, to Allah’s delight,
Battling the urges, a struggle that ignites my spirit,
Until it sings my praise for only God to hear it,
Because that’s where our spirits go to find salvation,
To abstain from pleasures and avoid temptations,
From the moment when the thread of light has risen,
Until the minute when the glow of the night’s in vision,
Ramadan, a month to gain knowledge from inner reflection,
So the heart and soul fuel the mind, and form a connection,
A time for submission, all hearts to the East for prayer,
A moment of purity, a time when your faith is declared,
To gain strength from weakness and pride from devotion,
Along with One billion Muslims from both sides of the ocean,
To support those in need, through good deeds and goodwill,
Because these our God’s words, duties for us to fulfill,
To be both humble and grateful, both honest and sincere,
To do in 30 days, what should be done throughout the year.
So when the Holy Month ends, and the fast concludes,
Don’t forget what your duty in Islam includes,
To be the best Muslim brother or sister you possibly can,
Because mankind relies heavily, on the kindness of man,
To be the best we can be, shouldn’t just last 30 nights,
It should be something we practice every day of our life.
